Description
This beautiful 3/4 "Olde Yankee" Double Bass was made by A. Batchelder & Son, in Pelham, New Hampshire 1875, a relative of the Prescott family (linked by marriage.) String Length is 41 1/4". I have used this Bass in a Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Gigs, Broadway-type shows as well as Big Band and Concert Band venues. I would always receive compliments on my tone from audience members, Orchestra/Band members, and even other Bass players. Since gradually acquiring a collection of fine English and Italian Double Basses I have been slowly selling off the ones I no longer personally use. This Bass is 100% authentic in all its components with the exception of the new modern fittings like new Ebony Fingerboard, new adjustable Bridge, new Endpin and new Rubner Tuning Machines similar to the ones pictured. The Tailpiece I believe may actually be original to the Bass. This is an extremely charming Bass to play with all registers easily accessible. The Bass Bows smoothly with a dark and sweet tone, and growly as needed for Jazz Pizz. If not for the Batchelder Label and the obvious Yankee Scroll, this Bass could easily be mistaken for a Tirol or an Italian Bass. As I mentioned earlier, this is an extremely versatile Bass for any type of playing venue. The Batchelder is also in an excellent state of repair. For more Information and Pictures of this great American Bass please look here: >>> A. Batchelder & Son. web pageBesides this rare Batchelder Bass we have several other Basses available in various price ranges including one of a kind Basses by Martini, Lombardi, Gilkes and many others as seen here: >>> “Double Bass Website”If you have any questions regarding this Bass please feel free to contact us by email or phone.
