Description
For auction, a superb Baldwin L1 Artist Grand Piano. This is a 6'3" long mid-sized grand piano, sometimes referred to as a "Conservatory Grand". It is perfect for a church (especially one with a concert series), a mid sized concert hall, or home use. It was purchased new in the late 1980s for my mother, who was, sadly, no longer to play due to arthritis having deformed her hands. Since her death in 2001, the piano has been used as a primary instrument, by the piano soloists at the Hot Springs Music Festival. Included in it's uses were CD recordings of piano music by Gottschalk and Gershwin for the Naxos label. I have spoken with the festival piano technician, whose reports on the quality and condition were stellar. He felt that not only did the piano posses a lovely warm sound, but that it was in superb shape technically, and due to limited use was only now getting broken in. The ivories are perfect, and the instrument is well regulated. The only flaw in the condition was one piece of veneer which chipped off, but has been reglued. The repair is shown in the photographs below. You can't see it, right? The ivories are pictured here. The serial number, 234240, is evidenced on the soundboard. The original bench is included. High quality notwithstanding, Baldwin is no longer making pianos. While they are not yet collectors items, it is worth considering that many artists, such as Jorge Bolet, preferred the Baldwin piano and were considered "Baldwin Artists". Please feel free to ask any questions you might have. I'm not a pianist, but can probably refer your questions to people familiar with this piano. The starting bid price has been set well below current Fair Market Values for the instrument, in order to induce a quick sale. Dealers are welcome. Happy bidding!"
